I interviewed her today for my Fearless Voice Power affordable singing lessons series and thought that several things she had to say would be helpful for you. - Fearless Voice Power - Most people tell me privately that they would love to be able to sing without fear, on pitch, without a hoarse throat or a nasal sound. But often they don't believe they can actually fulfill that private desire and therefore they don't want to even try or are too afraid to even try. But they keep privately wishing it were true. Somewhere in their early years, the message they got from parents, teachers, siblings or friends, convinced them that they were tone … [Read more...]

Your Singing Voice Curve

singing voice curve abstract

What in the world is a singing voice curve and why is it important to you? In order to answer those two questions, I have to tell you a true story about the painting you see to your right and a recent voice lesson I gave over Skype. You may or may not know that I am an abstract painter, writer, performer and composer, as well as a voice teacher, so from time to time, I will sit down and look at a photo (or landscape or some other tangible object) and allow the shapes and colors in it to … [Read more...]

Unstoppable Singing Voice

singing mindset when computer crashes

My computer crashing and having to have its hard drive and logic board replaced a few days ago might have thrown me off kilter and pushed me all out of shape because of the delay it has caused in launching my affordable singing lessons, but I decided not to let it. Then I got to thinking about how a computer crash relates to learning how to sing and to making sure you can feel ease in singing. As I get closer and closer to my Free Your Voice Affordable Singing Lessons launch, I am becoming more and more keenly aware of how important your personal sense about your voice is. One of the things that I want to impress upon you at this time is that your singing voice is not just about your singing voice. I know that sounds rather strange, but here is what I mean. All of the anatomy parts that you use when singing (muscles, bones, tissues, lungs, vocal cords, etc.) are pretty much the … [Read more...]

Singing Help #1

free voice arc

The Arc/Arch of Your Singing Voice A question I received recently from someone looking for singing help made me think about what I call the "arc" or "arch" of your voice. It is an approach to singing that can help carry you through the day without losing the power of your voice if you learn how to adjust the way you modulate your practicing and vocalizing. The young man who asked me for singing help has never written to me before but he has been watching and using my singing tips and … [Read more...]

I got an email from a really focused singer in New York. He has been asking questions, making comments and staying completely intent on freeing his voice for a long time and I truly appreciate the way he is discovering the secrets to singing. He called my "Believe in the Shower Quick Tip" the "famous shower scene," which made me laugh, but it also got me to thinking. The truth is this: making that video to help you free your voice was a great way for me to overcome my own obstacles and … [Read more...]

A Voice With a Song – Your Singing Mindset

An old old song from the 1920's contains clues for us today about our singing voices. According to Wikipedia, "Without a Song" was a popular song with music by Vincent Youmans and lyrics by Billy Rose and Edward Eliscu, published in 1929. It was included in the musical play, Great Day. In other words, it was a successful Pop Song during that era. What intrigues me about this song is the message it holds for us today: I got my trouble an' woe, but.... I'll get along as long as a song … [Read more...]
